Welcome to an anthology of words, images and ideas
After more than 30 years in the newspaper business, Pete Litterski saw his career take a sharp turn in 2009 when, in the face of a cratering economy, the Longview News-Journal eliminated 14 jobs, including the position of senior editor. Now, four years later, Pete is a freelance magazine writer as well as a contributor to regional East Texas publications and Web sites. He is also an essayist, a short story writer and a budding author trying to find a publisher for his first mystery novel. Inside this site you will find examples of some of his favorite columns and editorials from 15-plus years at the Longview News-Journal, samplings of his short fiction, the first chapter of his novel -- "A Pity She Died" -- and some of his favorite landscape photos. If you like what you read, let the writer know. If you like what you see, let's talk about prices for the scenic photos, including the sunset over Petit Jean State Park in Arkansas seen above.
