History through a friend's eyes
This is a column about watching the historic inauguration of Barack Obama in the company of my good friend, Delaney Dudley. Delaney was one of the first black children to integrate the Kilgore, TX, public schools when she was a young child.

This is a column I wrote after attending a community gathering to talk about a wave of violent crime that had people concerned about Longview.
Talent for the future
At first, writing for Treatment Plant Operator Magazine didn't have a lot of appeal. But I told my old newspaper buddy I would like to try an assignment or two. Pretty soon I was writing pretty steadily for a whole family of trade magazines produced by Cole Publishing and I have enjoyed every assignment. My favorites have been those about education programs offered by innovative wastewater treatment plant operators, like this one in Fort Worth.
